Red Dot Mount

Post by wormyjames »

Greetings all,
This is my first post and I need some help...
I have an older 870 Magnum Turkey gun that is NOT drilled & tapped and I want to add (drill&tap) a mount/rail to the receiver for a red dot sight. This gun has a flat groove on top of the receiver that is just a hair under 5/16" wide--what rail or weaver mount is made to fit into this groove. I would rather have a picatinny rail or at least something that has a couple slots in it. I ordered a Millet Picatinny rail PC00107 for pretapped guns and it is made to fit a rounded receiver and does not work.
Thanks for your time and help!
Rick

Here are some fuzzy pics of the 5/16" wide shallow groove:

Not sure anyone makes an optic rail specifically for your receiver. Still, I can't imagine it would be difficult to track down a generic length of flat-base 1913 rail that will work. You might end up having to drill a nonstandard mounting screw pattern, but since your receiver isn't tapped to start with, that shouldn't be a huge deal.
