Cutting down the barrel

Post by tnaka »

I'm been thinking as a option to buying a new barrel, that maybe i could cut down my current barrel. Shouldn't be a difficult task for a gunsmith right? My current barrel is 26" vent rib, so of course it can't be chopped off at any point.

Threading the barrel for chokes should be a manageable job for a gunsmith?

Anyone done this? Reason that i don't just get a new barrel is that those are quite expensive, around $350. Also this way it would still be a 3 1/2" barrel.

Barrels are not that expensive, for example, Remington 870 Police barrel is $178.99: http://tinyurl.com/nmnkpgp
Carlson's barrels are inexpensive too: http://tinyurl.com/oqgd3kk

Thanks for the advice and link. Sadly the price i mentioned is reality in this part of the world.

How about the threads? Are they doable on a cutted down barrel?

A gunsmith with the right tools can re-thread a shortened barrel for choke tubes.
