870 Bullpup Conversion Concept

Post by Synchronizor » Mon Jan 21, 2013 12:02 pm

I was looking through the internet trying to find the 870's magazine tube thread, and came across this bullpup conversion kit for the Remington 870:

Here's their website, and a link to the full patent.

Looks like an interesting concept. It won't win many points for style or light weight, but it'll definitely give you the 870 in a pretty compact package. You could also conceivably install a hunting barrel and a longer mag tube for a high-capacity build with the same overall length as a standard 18-20" HD shotgun.

I saw a review somewhere this is not that good. If you want a bull pup design get the Keltec KSG. Get more ammo too!
BETTER TO BE JUDGED BY 12 THAN CARRIED BY 6

I'm not really that interested in a bullpup shotgun, I like my shotguns traditional; I just thought people here might find this interesting.

One concern I have with the design is how well it will stand up to repeated assembly and disassembly for cleaning, especially with all those plastic parts.

That's interesting because I just received several photos of a bullpup Remington 870 from one of the readers, will post them to blog soon.

I was interested in the bullpup layout but after reading user experiences on a bullpup forum and watching the assembly video on Youtube, I decided against it. It may work for a home defense situation. However, the combination of plastic bits and numerous screws makes me think I'd be giving up too much reliability and durability in exchange for the compactness it buys. Simple is best.

I've read a lot about failure to eject problems after the conversion, no experience myself though.

Same here, also heard of trigger disconnect problems. I'd stay away from the keltec ksg also, it ejects shells straight down onto your wrist and it HURTS! The way to go is the UTS-15 if you're going bull pup. Me, I love my 870 just the way she is.

870 Bullpup Conversion Concept

I have one, and in the two days I've had it, I've run about 50 rounds through it without a single issue.

The only problem I've had so far is with the broomstick I got. The batteries flew out during one course of fire. It's going back to the vendor this weekend.

The conversion kit seems to work very well for me.

That's good to here. Do you feel its bulky due to the increased withe? I want to do the conversion however I have the LW 20 gauge and it will not work without mods to the back mounting block and a magazine tube shim. Looking for some one will trade me a 12 gauge for mine.

I'm 6 feet tall and about 270 pounds and have giant hands.
I'm a lot bulkier than the weapon.

For me, it seems to be a pretty nice fit, and it will be better once I figure out the right foregrip and sighting system.
