Wingmaster 20G size of shells

Hi all. I have an 870 Wingmaster 20 gauge. The barrel says it's a 20 ga, magnum for 3" shells. Can it shoot smaller size shells or is that impossible or a bad idea?

When it says 3" shells, it means your safe for any size up to 3". NO shells longer than 3". You can fire 2 3/4" shells with absolutely no issue.
