Remington extension problem
Remington extension problem
Hi, I recently installed the Remington extension kit in my shotgun but I can´t manage to get two rounds in it, just one. Should I shorten the spring? (It's really long, it was Hell to put it in the magazine)
Thanks for any help

Re: Remington extension problem
Both +2 and +3 Remington extensions use the same spring, which is why it seemed long, but you won't gain any capacity by shortening it. Both kits are designed so that the follower will hit the notch toward the end of the tube before the spring is fully compressed.
Assuming these are 2.75" shells you're trying to load, you probably don't have the tube installed properly in the coupling nut. With two-piece extensions like the Remington kits, you have to install them the right way to get a proper internal mate between the magazine and extension tubes. If there's a gap or other discontinuity at that joint, the spring or follower can snag there and prevent you from loading more than five rounds. Here's a video with some tips on installing these extensions properly.

I had this same problem recently. Turns out that the extension I bought had the wrong spring(the spring did not have a closed end). The spring end was slipping past the follower just enough to jam it. I replaced it with a Wilson Combat spring and it works flawlessly.
Re: Remington extension problem
I reinstalled the extension with the advice from Synchronizor's post and now it works just fine. Thanks a lot again!

Is the +2 or +3 the extension I need to get if I want the magazine tube flush with the end of the barrel?

Re: Remington extension problem
Depends on your barrel. The +2 lines up with an 18.5" barrel, and the +3 will line up with a 20.5" barrel. Since they were originally developed for military shotguns with bayonet mounts, these extensions were designed to extend a half-inch past the muzzles of 18" and 20" barrels.

Thanks!
I have mine mounted in a bullpup, so I'm looking for something that looks right.
I will get the +2.
If the barrels weren't so expensive, I would get a new barrel and a +3.

Re: Remington extension problem
Do you need two barrels for this gun? If not, you could probably offset most of the cost of a basic 20" barrel by selling your current one. Remington sells a 20" bead sight barrel with a fixed IC choke (#F242253) for about $125, and you should be able to sell your 18.5" barrel for around $100 if it's in decent shape. You may even break even if you don't mind settling for a cheap aftermarket barrel (and I'm guessing you're not too concerned about flawlessly smooth function if you're going with the bullpup chassis).USMC_5711 wrote:I will get the +2.

Hmmmm.
Methinks one of my local gun stores made some very nice margin on the barrel I currently own.
Thanks for this.
