What you hunt with your 870?
What you hunt with your 870?
Down this end of the planet, my primary use is for Tree Rats! Not a great photo, but didn't want to give the little chap a chance to get away before I got the gun up.

Rich, I've heard that Remington 870 is a good choice for hunting but didn't have a chance to use it for this purpose.

Primarily bird hunting. Not many opportunities to hunt other things down our way.

You would be very surprised at what you can hunt with a 870. I won a bet when I lived in Montana that I could take a Mule deer, Whitetail deer, and a elk with my shotgun. I won the bet. One thing is I was forced to have to get close. Using both standard buckshot and rifled slug was key.

Haha, it may have been that I'm viewing on a tablet, but I was playing Where's Waldo with that picture for a solid 2 to 3 minutes.

Re: What you hunt with your 870?
With my 870 Express 20 gauge, I've taken lots of dove and a couple of nice sized rattlesnakes. No quail yet, and probably not ever now that I got my new Beretta O/U in the same gauge. The 870 Express 20 gauge will be the first shotgun I pass on to my son, if I get lucky enough to have one, as it was my first shotgun.
With my 870 HD 12 gauge, I took out a LOT of steel plates.
I haven't used the Wingmaster 12 gauge yet since I'm still waiting to restore it until things heat up a bit here in Texas and I can use that heat to help with the rust blue process. Once it's done, I'm sure I'll give it a try with pheasant, turkey, and of course, clay pigeons.

I have successfully hunted and taken white tail deer, eastern wild turkey, ruffed grouse, ringnecked pheasant, quail, jack rabbits, cottontail rabbits, black squirrels, grey squirrels, red squirrels, chimpmunks, various ducks and geese, crows, coyotes, porcupines, groundhogs, and between 5,000 and 7,500 clay targets.

Yeah, he was only a small one - the size of a large house cat. They get quite a bit bigger. Always remind me of the swamp rats from The Princess Bride...
