Remington Slug barrel

Greetings from Missouri! I am a new member, but not to the world of firearms. I am a retired US soldier with over 23 years of weapons experience and currently work as a firearms analyst for a major firearms box store. I received a Remington rifled slug barrel without sights mounted. However, there is a platform mounted on the barrel where the rear sight should be mounted. I have never seen this set-up before. I will try and send a picture to my phone. I am not very tech savvy so this may take a couple of tries. Anyway, if someone sees this phot can you please enlighten me as to why this was done.

That setup isn’t uncommon. Some Remington rifled slug barrels came with a rear sight base or mount but no sight installed. A photo would help, but it’s likely just a factory sight platform or one a previous owner removed the sight from.
