16 gauge 870

Post by Okie1297 » Sat Aug 15, 2020 1:42 pm

I’m new to shotguns in a way I’ve had a Mossberg 510 since I was 7 but never shot it much. For Christmas last year per family tradition I got a shotgun at 14. I got a 20 gauge 870 to go rabbit hunting. I plan to join the military in the marines or army and want to have a shotgun to go hunting around base. I want to buy a 12 gauge to go different kinds of hunting. I’ve always had an interest in 16 gauge and I really want to start collecting shotguns like the 870. Did they ever make a 16 gauge 870. One day I want to own both a 12 gauge and a 16 gauge along with my 20 gauge and my 410.

Welcome and hello. Yes, they made 16-ga 870's but they are pretty scarce and command much attention. 16-ga was/is an "tweener" cartridge, supposedly having the best of both 12- and 20-gauge. But the shell choices are more limited than either of those, just because the volume is so low.

Figured that I’m actually thinking of a 16 gauge over under I like the looks of one and I just think it’s be cool. Thanks

Brits love the 16-ga, but the following over here is still highly compartmentalized to a few. Still, I could do with one of these....

Thanks man I’ll look into that I also like the Steoger condor and cz upland but I dint think they make those in 16 gauge. I’m fine with my 870 for now it’s a potential 12 gauge option. I really want to expand my Collection and they will all be used.

I had my eye on a CZ when I upgraded my trap gun from the 870. I started with a Turkish Kofs (basic $300 o/u) (https://www.kofs.com.tr/) to get the feel of it, and then finally moved to a Beretta 682 as a present when I cleaned my first 25 straight. Also spent a good amount of time looking at Franchi Instinct Sporting II (https://www.franchiusa.com/sporting-shotguns) in the mix. Since I shoot trap in a field style "aiming", I needed a field gun and the Kofs and Beretta both hit the mark.
