2003 Remington 870 Tactical

Post by jstanfield103 » Sun Apr 19, 2020 5:19 pm

Guy's/Gal's
I was at my LGS Friday 4-17-20 and looking around and found a 2003 870 Express Magnum Tactical. It was around $300 out the door. I use to have the Police version of the 870 and wish that I never had gotten rid of it. So now I bought this express and going to make it a Police version except for a couple of things that I actually like better on the express version.
So here is what is on order (and yes probably would of saved if just bought the police version)

1. Elzetta ZSM flashlight shotgun mount
2.Magpul Hand stop for foregrip
3.Magpul furniture
4.Stainless Magazine tube follower
5.Volquartsen extractor
6. extra power hammer spring and firing pin spring
7. Heavy Duty carrier dog spring
8. Wilson Combat domed safety

I am not replacing the trigger guard, I think that the plastic are better served. I believe they will last as long and don't chip paint off, just look better also. I am not adding rifled sights. I like just the one bead front sight. It is easily acquired.

Sounds like a great build. Of course some build pics along the way would be nice!

I will try and do that when all the pieces come in.

Instead of a steel follower I’d recommend an aluminum or a high quality hi viz aftermarket plastic follower. I wouldn’t put a steel follower in a steel tube.

Germanshepard

I ordered the Stainless Steel one , and then someone on another sight said it will eventually cause dame on the stop I believe. So I turned right around and ordered an aluminum one. I will not use the steel one, glad you and the other person advised me of the problem. I Love these sights, everyone is always helpful.

One thing I did not realize on my 870. I went in to change the hammer spring out and found a staked hammer pin. I do not want to replace that or mess with that. So instead of replacing the hammer and firing pin springs I guess I will leave them alone. I did put a stronger carrier dog spring in.

I have always been a big Remington 870 fan. I have trained on them and trained people on them when I was younger. I have not had one in years until now. Now after seeing the staked hammer pin (why did they do that) I almost wish that I would have bought the 590A1. But it is not made of steel.

Was not going to replace the trigger assembly from plastic to Aluminum, but since the plastic has the staked hammer pin in it I just ordered a new aluminum trigger assy.

I can't wait to see some photos! I am still in love with my M887 Nitro-Mag Tactical!
