What model is this

Post by andyb843 » Sun Jan 19, 2020 12:06 am

Bought this 870 in a pawnshop. Bought it because of the awesome stock and for-end. Didn’t even notice the birds on the stock and have no clue how the process is done. Just wondering if y’all had ever seen it before?

Never seen that before, but that is some awesome wood. What model? Can't tell without a pic of the receiver and any markings. Most likely a Classic model of some flavor, probably Wingmaster. Or a Custom Shop Special for somebody.

Nothing fancy on the receiver little bit of surface rust around the edges but for 245 out the door couldn’t pass on it. There is also a number etched inside the loading port on the receiver. Don’t know if that was original or the last guy who owned it.

Is it an open choked gun, if Remington had one I would call it a "Quail Special".

That was a regular 870 Wingmaster built Feb of 1971 with a Modified choke. That is the wood it should have in 71. You’ll will hear a lot of the older guys still go on about the quality of 70s Wingmasters. They were definitely top notch in their day.

Those were classic crafted pieces of kit, and are still coveted to this day.
