Stock Bearing Plate AND Drop & Cast?

Post by Pastor Doogie » Sat Nov 28, 2015 2:08 am

First time poster, long time reader...

I've been watching Beretta & Benelli selling spacers that fit between the stock & the receiver to adjust the way the shotgun fits vertically (drop @ the comb & heel) and cast (comb moving a few degrees left or right from the center of the barrel).

I wondered if a couple or three stock bearing plates could be ground down on one edge to do something similar. Have any of y'all ever tried it?

Successes & failures equally appreciated :D

You could give it a try, but the 870's stock bolt passes through the stock and screws into the receiver stud at a fixed angle, so you might have to modify your stock internally to be able to secure it at an angle other than what it was designed for.

I dont know for sure if this is a failed attempt at adjusting stock for fit, but if you DO attempt it please make sure there is a slight gap between the stock and sharp outer edge of the receiver socket. If I were to try it I'd probably bed the wrist into the receiver, not rely on a tapered shim alone.

That's some NICE figure in the buttstock, but such a shame to have the wrist ruined in that fashion.
