Ejector spring

Post by DoubleAction » Wed Apr 11, 2018 1:34 am

So I replaced the ejector spring on an 870 Express Synthetic and it's giving me a little trouble. I replaced it with part # 18855 which I see now is listed in my book as a Wingmaster part. Two pages over is an additional list with part numbers for "regular" parts. The Ejector spring part # is 99705. Definitely a difference in length. Should I have used the shorter # 99705? Thanks for any help.

Which book is this? The #18855 part is the only ejector spring Remington currently makes that I'm aware of, and it's meant for all large-frame 870s - including the Super Mag models. My shop manual also lists #18648 as an obsoleted ejector spring that was used in older 2 3/4"-only models. None of my digital parts lists (can't Ctrl-F a physical book) mention part #99705.

Numrich Gunparts also has two springs. One is for 2 3/4 only 12, 16, and 20GA. The other is for 12GA SuperMag 2 3/4, 3, and 3 1/2.

I ordered the 18885 from a gunsmith supply shop closer to home.

Anyway.... I ordered the smaller 99705 spring, but before it got here I put a new 18855 in again as I had two new 18855 springs and extra rivets to begin with. It works fine. It looks like I just messed up with not pounding the rivets flat enough the first time.
