Removing Oil from Wood Stock
Removing Oil from Wood Stock
Every once in a while I'll get an accidental smear of Rem Oil on my wood stocks and have always wondered what would be best suited for cleaning it without damaging the finish on the stock? Thought about Murphys Oil but never actually tried it.
Re: Removing Oil from Wood Stock
Rem Oil has never hurt the wood on my 870's. I've always heard it was good for wood. I've put it on my synthetic stocks even! I've smeared it on laminate and wood millions of times Lol? What kind of finish and wood do you have on your shotgun?
Re: Removing Oil from Wood Stock
Just the standard matte finish on the express line.

Re: Removing Oil from Wood Stock
No, don't use Rem Oil on your wood stock. It's meant for metal, not wood. From what I've read (I also use Rem Oil as my main lube/protectant), the oil will soak into the wood and can make it swell or become soft. If you get a little on the wood once in a while it shouldn't be a big deal, but if you intentionally apply it to your wood regularly over a long period of time, you can damage it. Stick with products that are actually meant for wood, like paste wax or an organic oil like linseed. The best product will probably depend on what particular finish your furniture has.

Wow! I didn't know that? I don't actually smear it on the wood, cause I know you don't run Remington's with a lot oil. I will have to be more careful. Thx Synchronizor! Sorry MB 1500...

No problem, I was just wondering if anyone had a good product to clean it off of the stock once it gets on there. Hate having a slippery fore end.
