how to polish a chamber

Post by 12GAfun » Fri Jun 20, 2014 6:22 pm

I am wondering how does one polish the chamber on a 870 Tactical barrel, I have been getting some shell sticking and wounder if it is the because the chamber needs polished. I called a local gunsmith and he said he could do it for 25.00 dollars and it would be like over a month before he got it back to me because he is booked up. I would rather tackle this myself, and really do not want to have no Home defense shotgun for a month. Thank you for all the replies and information on this matter.

Do it! I polished the chambers on all my shotguns soon after joining this forum. Definitely worthwhile on your HD gun. I used a Dremel tool because I had one, but there are other options. There are vids on YouTube where a drill, wooden dowel, and some steel wool are used to polish chambers also.

Thanks for the information, my only question is what kind of polish do you use I could not get a name of what brand it was from that pic or the video. Or do you just use a polishing brush on the dremel tool. Thank again for all your replies. I did now hear that you apply the Polishing compound to the wheel but what kind of polishing compound to get. Thanks

well got it polished up and it is working great, I myself do not have a dremel yet that is but went to my father that seems to have everything and has done about everything in his 68yrs and he knew what to do, had it all polished up and showed me what to do. I might be 38 yrs old but my dad still surprises me sometimes. Thanks to all your replies.

How does this polishing compare to using the Flex Hone from Brownells?

So far I have put 75 shells thru it since the chamber was polished and it runs like butter. I have lost the sticky feel to it before the chamber was polished.
