New member SW Georgia what do i have?

Post by airboatgreg » Mon Mar 18, 2019 5:16 pm

Greetings,
I have been browsing your site. Nice.
I have been an 870 owner since 1972 when I bought one from a Bellas Hess store in Clearwater Fl. As I recall it was $114.00. Modified rib, plain 28" barrel/ Have since put a ribbed barrel with Remchokes. Cost more then the shotgun. I have shot game and clay targets with it. My son and I went skeet shooting this past Saturday and he shot his grandfathers 870 that my wife's half brother gave him when he graduated from high school. Mine is a 1972 and I will need to get the date code to see when his 12 gauge vent ribbed one was born. Have been a life long shooter with a penchant for Remingtons and pump guns. Have a couple 42's and 12's also.
I just recently picked up a 870 20 gauge, 26" vent barrel, marked Remington with the proof mark. Skeet choked, straight stock. The gun is as new and I shot 3 rounds of skeet with it the other day. Serial number starts with a T and ends with a X. There is not a barrel mark on the left rear side of the barrel but there is an EV on the underside so I am thinking 1970? The wood is beautiful with fine LPI checkering. No fancy engraving
Do you think someone up=graded the wood? Would probably be more than the gun cost. I do hear that Remington made some upgraded skeet guns but cannot prove. All input would be greatly appreciated as it is an awesome gun and is destined to be one of my favorites

The T prefix indicates 74-77 production. The X suffix is for 20 ga "heavy frame." Very nice wood!

Did Remington put this wood on a gun like this?

The "SC" model had fancy wood, but the checkering pattern doesn't look like Remington.
