My first intended purpose with my 870 express 20 gauge was going to be deer. But with 3 inch mags they kicked much much harder than I was prepared for. Also, the year I purchased it my county allowed rifles so I've been using my 30-06 for that. Since I had it though I tried my hand at turkey. Got two nice drakes with it. Now it is my go to squirrel gun and back up brush deer gun. I liked it so much that I got a nice 1970 police magnum wingmaster that I used for a few squirrel hunts as well and also outfitted that for a HD gun.

Growing up in Illinois I used a .22LR to hunt squirrels and rabbits for the pot and didn't get my first shotgun, an 870 of course, until I became an LEO. Then the game of choice was not edible. Now that I've retired I'm re-evaluating the tasking of my different firearms. The last 870 that I picked up was an Express HD18" cylinder bore and I did purchase a 26" threaded choke barrel to go along with it. Here in Colorado there's an abundance of game that should be in the realm of the 870's effectiveness and it will be fun taking them for the pot.

I've hunted and still hunt Turkey, feral hogs, coyotes, dove, alligator, deer, snipe and ducks with my 870's. Best shotguns I own.The only limit as to what you can hunt with your 870 is yourself.

1969 Wingmaster 12 gauge--Pheasants, quail, ducks, doves, rabbits, skeet. I have recently purchased a 20 gauge Wingmaster and love it. Gifted a Wingmaster 12 gauge with two barrels to my son in law. Thinking about getting a 28 gauge.

I use my 870 as a foul weather gun for Pheasants. It is very easy to disassemble, dry out and clean.

I just got me an 870 Police. Rifle sights. 20 inch barrel. Synthetic stocks. I plan to go get me some of my local Florida wild hogs. They will be close. I am expecting slugs to really change their day.

First pigeon shoot with some workmates. I got 5 my mate got 20... Never used a shotgun other than a couple of clay bird shoots on a farm. Learn heaps about this type of hunting. Going out again in 2 weeks. Have a Magpul stock on the way, trigger and sights to play with too.
