870 pump Noobie here! (TAC 14 Marine Magnum)

Post by Destrejc » Tue May 05, 2020 3:56 am

Hello all! I’ve handled a lot of handguns plus being prior military enabled me to be exposed to them as well. With our current situation right now, I decided to purchase a shotgun for home defense last month. Because of the shortage and stock outs, I patiently waited and got my hands on a TAC 14 Marine Magnum for a very, very good price as well based on how much they are selling now. I’ve put about 60 rounds on it in the range the last couple of weeks and I have slowly but surely set it up for home defense via adding lights, red dot sight, Remington +1 mag extension, TAC Star side shell carrier and a SB Tactical SBM4 Brace to at least help me control the recoil via “occasional” shouldering ;) :)

I really love the “firearm” and my only question is, I am not to familiar with these and a local gun store called me and stated that they just got a new Remington TAC 14 with the Mesa Tactical brace and is selling it for $729. I do love the black and was wondering what everyones thoughts are between a regular 870 vs the marine edition...

If you were in my shoes, would you trade yours or keep it? Thanks! Image[/img]

Scratching my head why on Earth would you want to ‘build’ or add parts to that? You completely defeated the purpose of the intent of that particular firearm.
One piece of advice I will give DO NOT shoot a home invader with that. You will have problems because you have now just made an ILLEGAL weapon......you may be ok if you get a tax stamp but I still wouldn’t use it.
One you changed the stock its gave over on a TAC14. Keep it on the bedroom wall where you will look at it and no one else can see it.

Germansheperd, Thanks for the heads up. I have been researching for a couple of months now and saw that SB Tactical had letters from the ATF approving of such brace based on the loopholes. I guess my one question is, how come Remington actually sells them with an actual MESA Tactical brace similar to SB Tactical's as stock? Any input, positive or negative is appreciated.

Personally i would go with black, no brace, i’m not a fan the nickel guns.

I like the Marine type shotguns I think they are great. I think OP did a neat build. The way laws are today I just wouldn’t have modified ‘that gun’ is all. You cant be to careful today. The laws protect criminals not victims to many times.

Agreed! But It's crazy how nobody has any home defense (18" barrels) shotguns available right now!!! I have been looking for weeks and got lucky with this TAC 14 which was 2 hours away from me. Literally begged the gunstore to hold it for me. I heard Remington can't even keep up with the demand and possibly closed their factories because of the pandemic. I had to settle with this shorty. Maybe later on when inventory is back to normal, I can trade/sell mines and get a Magpul 870 version. Really wanted that but I'm lucky if I can even find an Express tactical 870 anywhere. I appreciate the opinions though.
