police magnum ?

hello. I have a LOT of shotguns but most are old doubles (oldest is 1890 Colt 12 gauge) so this is my 1st 870 and this is my 1st post. got this recently on GB, pd $505.00 which is a lot but hey there's rioting in the streets and a pandemic on so wtf. the barrel dates 1984 but the seller said he ran the serial number and got 1989. it seems to be in phenomenal condition. bluing is really nice. has a metal trigger group housing, decent wood. I wondered if it was a police magnum cause I've seen pics of other ones that look the same but a lot of them say "police magnum" on the receiver, mine just says "Remington Magnum". anyway, I took it down to clean and oil, removed the wood to do a few coats of linspeed and found this stamp on the head of the buttstock.

I'd say it is a police model. Remington's markings are all over the map. Back in the late 80s or early 90s a friend of mine and I got two 870 Expresses at same time. His receiver was stamped "Express Magnum", mine was stamped "Express" only, even though it is a Magnum receiver. Anyway, if you call Remington they'll tell you if it was born as "Police" model. Also check the internals, springs and such.

thanks. I think the mag spring is the police part as it's 20 1/2" long. from what I read the std one was 16" long approx. not sure what else to look at, guess I need to do some more reading.

so I called Remington and found out it's a 1989 870 police with 18" cyl bore barrel so everything is still original except for the magazine follower. cool. finished with the Linspeed Oil on the wood last night.

I know, I have the factory plus 2 mag extension kit and not sure I want to put it on now. keep it original or 2 more rounds? 5 is plenty for inside the house HD but some of the marxist mob crap lately has me wanting more (: I guess I always have this.
