What choke do I have?

Post by Tangthebay » Sun Oct 27, 2019 6:53 am

I just bought a Remington 870 with a 28 inch barrel. I have no idea what choke it has. Is there any way to find out? What choke is best for slugs? Buckshot? Birdshot? How can you change the choke?

Did you buy any older 870 with a fixed choke or a newer 870 with a Remchoke barrel? Best choke for slugs is Improved cylinder although you can go modified. The rest is subjective and at what distances.

If you have a fixed choke barrel it will tell what choke constriction the barrel has on the left side. If you have a newer one with choke tubes take the choke out and it will be marked on choke constriction it is.

If it is a removeable Remchoke, it will state on the side of the choke and may also have the notches used to indicate choke right on the muzzle end. A picture would help.
