Magpul SGA Stock and MOE Forend (Flat Dark Earth) for Remington 870
UPDATED REVIEW: Magpul SGA Stock and MOE Forend for Remington 870 Review

Magpul MOE Forend and Magpul SGA Stock (in Flat Dark Earth) on Remington870
Magpul SGA Stock and Magpul MOE Forend quickly became one of the most popular aftermarket sets for Remington 870. It is not surprising because Magpul has solid reputation of the manufacturer of innovative and quality accessories for firearms. I decided to buy this stock and forend to test them and see how good they are for Remington 870.
At first, Magpul SGA Stock looks unusual but very interesting. That is because Magpul is not afraid of experiments and has will to design innovative products.
Remington 870 looks very good with this set as you can see on the photo below. I especially like the Flat Dark Earth color.

Magpul SGA Stock and Magpul MOE Forend are high-quality products which are made in USA. They come in standard Magpul boxes with instructions and installation tools.
Magpul MOE Forend

Magpul MOE Forend is simple but well thought out product. It is made of thick plastic and looks sturdy.

I was afraid that plastic Magpul MOE forend could be slippy but it turned out that it is made of plastic which enables you to have a firm grip. Special grooves and hand stops on the forend make it extremely easy to use.
I have tested it one the range and it was easy to rack a shotgun using Magpul MOE forend. It enables you to position your hand comfortably and have a reliable positive grip.
Magpul MOE forend is little longer than other tactical forend but still can be used with 6-round sidesaddles:

The additional length of the Magpul MOE forend will be useful for most shooters (especially with shorter hands) because it will be more convenient to hold and reload a shotgun.
This forend has slots which enables you to install different MOE accessories such as rails, grips, etc.
Installation of the Magpul MOE Forend
Installation of the Magpul MOE forend is the same as with any other forend for Remington 870. No special instructions.
One of the good surpises – is a plastic forend wrench supplied with Magpul MOE forend. This means that Magpul cares about customers and don’t want them to spend money on tools to install Magpul MOE Forend:

Magpul SGA Stock looks very unusual, some even call it ugly, but it is very comfortable. This stock is going to become one of the most popular upgrades for Remington 870. It gives a lot of advantages to the end user and enables you to customize it easily.
Ergonomics of this stock are great. The unusual form of the pistol grip incorporated into classic stock enables you hold it comfortably but it doesn’t hurt your wrist under recoil as ordinary pistol grips do.
Another advantage of this stock is that Magpul SGA comes with 4 additional spacers to adjust the length of pull:

They enable you to find the lenght of pull that fits you.
Overall performance during the tests on the range was great. It is very comfortable to hold, reload and shoot.
Magpul SGA Stock and Slings
Magpul SGA Stock offers user to have multiple options to install sling. First way to install a sling is attaching it to left or right sling loop.
Second way to have a sling on Magpul SGA Stock is to install a Sling Mount Kit Type 1 which enables to use push-button QD sling swivels (not included).
And third way is Magpul Receiver Sling Mount for Rmington870 SGA Stock. It is not included, you need to buy it separately. Installation is easy, it replaces front SGA stock spacer.

Magpul SGA Stock Cheek Risers
Another example of the well thought out design of the Magpul SGA stock are Magpul SGA Stock Cheek Risers:

They will become handy for Remington 870 owners which have holographic sight or high iron sights.
Remington 870 SGA Butt Pad Adapter
SGA Stock recoil pad from Magpul is thick and works good. But many Remington 870 users like aftermarket recoil pads. That is why Magpul created Remington SGA Butt Pad Adapter which enables you installing any aftermarket butt pad for Remington 870.
I couldn’t find information about the butt pads which work with Remington 870 SGA Butt Pad Adapter, so I bought Remington Supercell Butt Padd for Synthetic stock to test it for compatibility.
Remington Supercell Butt Padd for Synthetic stock fits Remington 870 SGA Butt Pad Adapter perfectly:

If you are buying Remington Supercell Pad, remember that it comes without screws, you need to purchase them separately.

My thoughts
Magpul SGA stock and Magpul MOE forend look and work extremely good. Their price is affordable and there a lot of different accessories available for them. Of course, they look unusual but I think that this is just because Magpul is not afraid of experiments and ready to offer something new to the market of firearms accessories.
The best thing is that you can install huge number of upgrades from Magpul on your Magpul SGA stock and Magpul MOE Forend.
I recommend this set without any doubts because you will love it.

Awesome writeup!
Thanks!
Hi Vitaly,
If you had the choice to put a Speedfeed Youth Stock and police fore end or the Magpul stock and fore end on your 870, which one would you select? I’m just interested in pure comfort and ergonomics.
Thanks!
Chris
Hi Chris,
I would choose Hogue Short LOP Stock and forend
Pure comfort and simplicity.
Excellent Vitaly. Thank you!
So you didn’t find the Magpul stock as ergonomic or as comfortable as the Hogue?
Chris,
I think that Magpul stock and forend are really good and ergonomic but Hogue is very simple and effective too. You can choose one of them and they will work good. Hogue is classic variant, Magpul is innovative but both of them work good.
Excellent. Thank you once again for the info and for all you do here at Rem870 Vitaly.
Chris, you are more than welcome!
In that last picture (and the earlier one) the shooter, standing with his hips square to the target, doesn’t look like he has control of the weapon? Arm straight and fingers not able to hold much of the praised forearm? I could slap that out of his hand without much trouble (I am an Iraq vet so no “I bet you wouldn’t” comments please. I have been closer to the business end of a shotgun than I care to remember) Is this some new shooting position I haven’t heard of yet? Not chop busting just asking. This does look like a good setup, I plan on the upgrade when other pursuits are less important, currently duck season.
Scottgreatkids, that shooter is me
I wasn’t shooting at that time, just asked my friend to take several pics. I was little tired after 10 minutes of holding shotgun (my friend made a lot of pics), that is why I hold forend like that
Here’s how I usually hold and shoot shotgun: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXz6FWRYI7Y and view from the camera on my earmuffs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ng5gSyB0CAY
That stock and forend enable you to have a firm grip, so please don’t be tricked by the photo.
Good to go Vitaly. Good site and good info.
Scott
Thank you, Scott!
I am interested in purchasing a Remington Supercell recoil pad for the Magpul SGA stock adapter and you stated it does not come with screws. What type and size of screws do I need to fit the pad to the adapter?
